Lift a lager for Rosie! East Brother Beer Company and Rosie the Riveter Trust present the Pride & Purpose Beer Festival, the first beer festival in Northern California to make lagers the main attraction. The festival will take place on June 18th, 2022 at East Brother Beer Company, located at 1001 Canal Blvd in Richmond California.
Why Lagers? When we launched East Brother Beer Company in 2016, we committed to sticking with the classics. Our instinct and palates told us that classics, and lagers specifically, would be on the rise in the craft world. For a long time, macro breweries had set the standard for what American beer drinkers consider a lager; and that pale, lightly malted beer quickly made lagers the butt of the joke…but brewing an exceptional lager is no joke! It takes a remarkable amount of time and skill to brew this style of beer well; lagers are labor, and they can be unforgiving. As our Head Brewer Paul Liszewski (whose license plate reads “LAGER”) says, “If there’s an off-flavor, if you’ve rushed things, there’s nothing to hide behind.” A lager is a true testament to a brewer’s ability to make great beer.
Pride & Purpose Lagers are as diverse as the communities we live in, so East Brother Beer Company’s Pride & Purpose Beer Festival has set out to bring Northern California’s legendary craft beer professionals together to Lift a Lager for Rosie. The festival will feature at least 25 breweries pouring more than 50 beers. Fellow brewers like Anderson Valley, Crooked Lane, Drake’s, Faction, Fieldwork, HenHouse, Heretic, Hunters Point, Local (and a whole bunch more from M to Z) will be pouring their personal favorites, with more than half of the featured styles being lagers. Proceeds from the festival will benefit the Rosie the Riveter Trust, the official nonprofit partner of Rosie the Riveter/World War II Home Front National Historic Park located in Richmond, California.
BBTS (Beer Behind the Scenes) Moderated by Michael Kiser of Good Beer Hunting, there will be a Pride & Purpose panel discussion at noon with craft beer luminaries and authors like Jeff Alworth, author of The Beer Bible, freelance beer writer Lou Bustamante, Ron Silberstein, co-founder of Admiral Maltings, and more. This in-depth discussion, best enjoyed with a cold beer, will focus on lagers, what it takes to brew them, and the long historic relationship between beer and labor.
Celebrating hard-working men and women, this festival is more than about just beer. In partnership with Rosie the Riveter Trust, the Pride & Purpose Beer Festival will share stories from the past with the Rosies, the Boilermakers, and countless others who showed up for their communities during WWII, as well as those of the present by showcasing local makers and trades organizations.
Tickets and Information Tickets are available through Eventbrite with a full festival schedule at eastbrotherbeer.com/beerfestival. Ticket prices begin at $60 per person, $75 per person including early access, and $20 per person for non-alcoholic beverage attendees.
Iconic Northern CA Craft Brewery Adds Rotational IPA Series and New Peach Goseas it Celebrates its 35th Year in Production
February 8, 2022 Boonville Calif. – Celebrating its 35th year anniversary, Anderson Valley Brewing Company’s (AVBC) 2022 beer release calendar features a mix of the brewery’s beloved “beer flavored beer” offerings such as Boont Amber Ale, Boonville Gold, and Summer Solstice, as well as brand new products including the Rotational IPA series, a draft-only Peach Gose, and the Gose Variety Pack.
New IPA Rotational Series – First to debut, the Crisp IPA
AVBC is proud to present the new fresh batches of IPA flavored IPA. If you’re new to AVBC you might be surprised to learn that we were once on the leading edge of crafting West Coast IPAs. We love drinking IPAs and our brewers love making them, so we thought it was the perfect time to introduce a new line up. All of the new IPAs have been informed by AVBC’s brewing history and reflect countless beers that have been tested and vetted at the Tap Room. Each IPA features a new recipe and will be released on a rotating basis with the seasons.
Crisp IPA bright and snappy with a healthy touch of hops and works with the cold part of the season when the frost first starts to bite. (now available)
Double IPA in features a bigger helping of hops and a full fresh profile that’s bursting with life and ready to pair with the arrival of warmer weather in the spring. (April release)
Juicy Session IPA (July release) is a beer that you’ll keep coming back to again, and again…and again. Made for a laid back late summer day it won’t fill you up and pairs with sandy board shorts and picnics. (July release)
West Coast IPA (October release) has come to define the contemporary IPA genre. From its classic hop profile and modern flavors it’ll warm you up as the temperatures start to dip in the fall. (October release)
Peach Gose – Draft Beer Offering AVBC’s new Peach Gose is the latest in its catalog of Goses and has become a fast favorite. There are few things that make more sense than Peach Gose – the soft, juicy stone-fruit flavors are perfectly lifted by the tartness of the Gose souring and the combination is pure magic. It’s easy drinking, light, refreshing and full of flavor. Considering Brewmaster Fal Allen literally wrote the book on Gose and AVBC is widely credited for making Gose a “thing,” it’s surprising that it took so long to brew one. Aside from an obvious pairing with peach cobbler, pour alongside a triple-cream Brie, serve it in a snifter with grilled halibut, or pair a pint with shrimp scampi, fish and chips or crab cakes because anything from the briny depths #goeswithgose.
A Variation for Spring – The Gose Variety Pack The Gose Variety 12-Pack features three cans each of Briney Melon Gose, Cherry Gose, Framboise Rose Gose, and Blood Orange Gose. It’s hard to decide which gose to grab when they are all full of deliciousness. Well, now you don’t have to decide. Our classic fruit brewed gose are now available in a variety pack, letting you enjoy them all!

SF Beer Week is Back

SAN FRANCISCO – During SF Beer Week, February 11-20, five eagerly-awaited SF Beer Week Official Collaboration Beers – each created by three local breweries working together – demonstrate that both co-operation and competition benefit a thriving craft brewery community.
The annual SFBW Collaboration Brews turn competitors into teammates
For over a decade, different combinations of brewers from different breweries have shared their brewing knowledge and collaborated on creating new beers to launch the annual week-long celebration of craft brewing. The official collabs have become an SF Beer Week fan favorite.
Each of the 2022 collab brews is a creative take on the most popular family of craft styles, the IPA. Since both recipe and process have profound effects on beer flavor, three breweries share the credit for each of these beers.
In San Francisco, Barebottle Brewing brewed and fermented “Red Whale,” a tropical red IPA, hopped with Citra, Citra Cryo, Strata and Galaxy hops, following a new recipe created by the brewers at Local Brewing and Woods Beer Co.
In the North Bay, Cooperage Brewing executed a recipe designed by Adobe Creek Brewing and Parliament Brewing to create “Hop Drip,” a sour Fruited IPA brewed with apricots and strawberries and hopped with Galaxy and Mosaic hops.
The East Bay’s entry, “Intrinsic,” brewed by Oakland’s Temescal Brewing following a recipe designed by Del Cielo Brewing and Headlands Brewing, is described as an enhanced West Coast IPA, using HBC 586, Mosaic Cryo, Motueka, Vic Secret and Saaz hops.
The Silicon Valley brew, “Pure Harmony,” a Cold IPA brewed with local honey from Belmont’s Wings of Nature, comes out of Devil’s Canyon Brewing using a recipe written by Brewing With Brothas and ShaKa Brewing. It’s finished with CTZ, Zappa, Galaxy and Sabro hops.
Representing nearby coastal breweries, Santa Cruz’s Woodhouse Blending & Brewing is releasing “Juxtapose,” a double dry-hopped West Coast IPA, following a new recipe written by Highway 1 Brewing and New Bohemia Brewing. It was hopped with Galaxy, Strata, Citra, Mosaic and Cascade hops.
All five of this year’s SF Beer Week official collaborations will be presented on Feb. 11, at simultaneous SF Beer Week Kick Off events in San Francisco, San Rafael, San Leandro, Sunnyvale and Seaside. See https://sfbeerweek.org/kickoffs
After the Kick Offs, some of the official collaboration beers will be available at select locations during beer week. Alameda’s Admiral Malting Company, one of the nation’s few traditional artisan floor-malting facilities, provided malted barley ingredients for the collaborations. The malt makers will pour all five at The Rake taproom in Alameda. Learn more about the 2022 collabs and where to find them on the SF Beer Week site. See https://sfbeerweek.org/collabs

“The craft beer community is elated SF Beer Week is back, even while remaining vigilant in keeping staff and customers safe,” said SF Beer Week organizer Joanne Marino, the Bay Area Brewers Guild’s executive director, “As an annual tradition since 2009, having SF Beer Week return feels like one more step toward normal after two years of challenges.”

Nationwide Release of New West Coast IPA Hits Retailers in 33 States: 21st Anniversary IPA
A Modern Twist on a Classic West Coast IPA with Massive Hop Flavors and Aromas from Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, Cashmere, and El Dorado Hops (7.4% ABV)
San Francisco, Calif. – Thursday, July 8, 2021 – The 21st Amendment Brewerycelebrates the right to be original as they host an epic birthday party at their San Leandro brewery on Saturday, August 21, 2021 (1pm – 7pm). The 21st Anniversary Party(a.k.a. Augustfest) salutes the major milestone of 21st Amendment turning 21 and what better way to ring in the festivities than to throw a big party, with collaboration brews, and release a new 21st Amendment beer?
Co-Founders Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan have been on an extraordinary and wonderful journey since opening their beloved SoMA brewpub in 2000. 21stAmendment Brewery invites the greater Bay Area community to hoist a pint with them on their big day.
In conjunction with the big bash and to acknowledge their brewing roots, 21stAmendment Brewery is releasing a new 21stAnniversary West Coast IPA in tribute to the hottest beer style that defined the brewing scene in 2000. Brewmaster Shaun O’Sullivan brews 21st Anniversary IPA with the past in mind, though with a modern twist by using an abundance of new world hops including Cascade, Chinook, Centennial, Cashmere, and El Dorado hops. With robust hop flavors and aromas of grapefruit peel, lemon rind, and peppery pine sap with a restrained malt structure, 21stAnniversary IPA paves the way forward for a classic style adapting to a contemporary palate.
“Nostalgia is an incredible thing,” says Shaun O’Sullivan. “In many ways, it’s a form of revisionist history. A first love; an amazing meal; old TV shows with catchy jingles. Memories can take you back to the times when you enjoyed these things, but there are limits. West Coast Style IPAs are similar to those past memories. A seemingly bygone style underrepresented by the current wave of hazy and juicy IPAs ignores what was so fantastic about the discoveries of the moment in the mid-1990s. West Coast IPAs, a California origin style, defined an era of brewing and we want to showcase how the style changed everything for American craft beer.”
“To have our 21st Anniversary IPA distributed to 33 states across the country is an incredible culmination to everything Shaun and I and our amazing staff have worked so hard for these past 21 years,” adds Nico Freccia. “And to celebrate with our community this summer at our San Leandro production brewery is the perfect way to say a huge thanks for their ongoing support and a chance to come together for an amazing day enjoying beers, great food and fun in the sun.”
The 21st Anniversary Party features live music from East Bay Mud and Dr. D Band, a private cigar lounge, food trucks (Urban Roots BBQ, La Poblana, 21st Amendment Taproom Food Truck, and others), kids’ activities, and birthday beer collaborations with Fieldwork Brewing, Three Weavers, Urban Roots, Faction Brewery, and The Good Hop bottle shop. Shaun O’Sullivan teams up with each brewery’s head brewer for a limited-edition release to be available at the 21st Anniversary Party. 21st Amendment will also host an onsite farewell party for their neighbor Cleophus Quealy Brewery, who closed last year, with a pop-up beer tent pouring seven CQ beers.
Admission to the 21st Anniversary Party is free; beer and food purchases require tickets sold onsite at the brewery the day of the event. The 21st Anniversary Party is a General Admission event from 1pm – 7pm.
21st Anniversary West Coast IPA launches this month in 6-packs in all 33 states where 21st Amendment distributes. For more information and to find some using their beer finder, please visit www.21st-Amendment.com.
About 21st Amendment Brewery21 years ago (established in 2000), Nico Freccia and Shaun O’Sullivan opened the doors to the 21st Amendment brewpub in San Francisco’s historic South Park neighborhood. In addition to quickly becoming one of the city’s favorite pubs, 21st Amendment began expanding beyond the Bay Area by helping to pioneer the movement to canned craft beer. Known for their witty names and delicious brews, 21st Amendment offers year-round selections, as well as seasonal offerings and their infamous once-in-a-while limited-edition releases. Sold in 33 states plus Washington D.C., 21st Amendment produces beer in its state-of-the-art brewery headquarters in San Leandro, California and is among the top 50 craft beer brewers in America.
